Activity Group Comments
Band5th-12th GradeThe beginning band is for children who are just learning to play an instrument. The advanced band is for those who have some experience in band. Both bands perform at school activities such as the Christmas program, the Spring Fine Arts Evening, graduation, Grandparent's Day, etc., and occasionally at community events.
High School Choir9th-12th GradeStudents in the high school sing at several school functions and sometimes off-campus.
Music K-6th Grade Each class has a music class designed for that age-group. To help teach music theory, students use Music Maestro®, a computer program that makes a game of learning.
Music 7th and 8th Grade These students work on vocal music. At times they learn and perform on handbells.
Student Council 7th-12th Grade Representatives from each grade are elected annually. The group holds fundraisers to finance events the group sponsors, such as Spirit Week, Homecoming, and the Spring Banquet.
Yearbook Staff 9th-12th Grade Meetings are held weekly during the school year to create the yearbook online. Students who are interested in photography are encouraged to provide pictures for the book.
Science Fair K-12th Grade Students are judged according to their grade-level in demonstration, model, and collection projects; experimental projects; or engineering projects. Kindergarden through second grade have their fair in the fall. Third grade on up demonistrate their projects at their fair at the end of April each year. Participation is voluntary.
Service Activities K-12th Grade Elementary students participate in monthly visits to Thornapple Manor to interact with residents, doing crafts and other activites. Each year a project is chosen for the students to participate in at Christmas time. Examples include Operation Christmas Child or sending care packages to troops. High school students have the opportunity to join a mission trip during spring break. They have travelled to Louisiana and Missippi to help rebuild after hurricane Katrina; and to North Carolina to build a house with Habitat for Humanity.
